
17 February 2005, Celtel Kenya Sponsors 35th series of Concours d’ EleganceCeltel Kenya Ltd will this year sponsor the 35th series of Concours d’ Elegance organised by the Alfa Romeo Owners Club to a tune of 4.5 millions shillings. The popular annual event which features best competitors in the 13 car and six motorcycles classes is expected to draw competitors from Kenya and across the globe. This year’s event dubbed Celtel Kenya Concours d’ Elegance will be held on September 25th 2005 at the Ngong Race course. Announcing the sponsorship, Gerhard May Chief Executive Officer Celtel Kenya, said, “The sponsorship of this event is in line with our mission of ‘making life better’ for Kenyans. This event which attracts thousands of motor enthusiasts and families is very popular and we are happy to give Kenyans a memorable family outing.” “The annual Concours has become East Africa’s biggest spectator motoring event and Celtel is supporting the organisers to attract entries from other African countries. It is our hope that the 2005 Concours will achieve greater international status.” The regulations for the 2005 Concours d’ Elegance have been approved by Kenya Motor Sports Limited and the Alfa Romeo Owners Club will be distributing them to potential entrants later this month. Jane Njoroge, the Concours d’ Elegance Secretary, said, “Thanks to Celtel’s backing, the prize list includes awards for the best placed car and motorcycle competitors from Tanzania, Uganda and outside East Africa.” “The regulations follow the pattern of previous years with minor changes. To link with the East African Safari Rally which will be held in December, the Concours will feature a category for classic rally and racing cars made in 1979, or earlier. The cars contesting this class will be in rally, or racing trim.”
