
May 3, 2005, Celtel launches new tarrifCeltel Kenya has announced a review of its tariffs and introduced a new tariff plan for
prepaid subscribers giving them more choice and flexibility in selecting the tariff plan that suits their
needs. Since the relaunch of the Celtel brand in the country in November last year, Celtel has continuously
rolled out new services and the review of the tariffs comes just a week after the company launched a service
in Kenya for the first time that enbales prepaid customers to share airtime. All the new services have been launched in line with the company’s customer’s satisfaction objective
and the most remarkable feature in the new tariff plan is the introduction of peak and off-peak period. Addressing a press conference today, Gilles Atayi the company’s Chief Marketing Officer said, “Since the
launch of our brand in Kenya, we have focused on giving Kenyans services that meet their needs. We are developing
our products with our customers needs at heart and now, our customers can call with as little as 11 shillings
during the off-peak period.” The prepaid tariffs now are: - Celtel 35s-Per second billing Kshs 32 during the peak period and Ksh s 11during the off peak
period for calls within the Celtel network.
- Celtel 40-This is a competitively priced per minute flat rate billing tariff charged at 15.37 shillings for
calls within the Celtel network and ksh 25.61 to other networks.
- Celtel 30F. Per second billing tariff plan; for the numbers you call most often. Could be your friends or
families and for these 4 Celtel numbers, you are charged flat rate of 0.34 per second or 20.40 shillings per minute.
- Celtel 30-Per Second billing Kshs 28.20per minute or 0.47 shillings per second.
Atayi while reiterating Celtel’s core value of transparency in business said that, “We at Celtel operate in a very
transparent manner. We have no hidden charges because we believe in empowering our customers by providing them with all
the necessary information to enable them make the right choice. Our tariffs do not have monthly fees, daily access fees
or call set up fee and for the next eight weeks, unlike before customers will change to their preferred tariff free of
charge.” If thereafter the customer wishes to change to another tariff, the normal migration charge applies. Mr Atayi further said “We have been listening to our subscribers and the new tariff plan is part of our commitment
to ‘make life better’ by giving subscribers options that are relevant to their communication needs.” Celtel Chief Executive Officer Gerhard May said, Celtel was committed to the promise made during the launch of the
Celtel Brand in Kenya and will continue rolling out more innovative services that will make the lives of the customers
better. Peak times begin from 8.00 a.m. to 9.00 p.m. from Monday to Saturday while Off Peak times begin from 9.00 p.m.
to 8.00 a.m. from Monday to Saturday, all day Sunday and public holidays.
